With the holiday season approaching, everyone wants to look their best for all the inevitable family photos. There are a range of non-surgical procedures out there that’ll get your skin looking youthful, radiant, and photogenic. Here are six of the most popular options:
1) Chemical Peels
Chemical peels come in light and deep varieties. Most of them use acidic solutions to “burn” your facial skin. Although lighter store-bought peels yield only superficial and short-lived results, deep peels are so potent and effective that they are considered a medical procedure. They perform a dual action, by which outer skin layers are removed and collagen production is increased – leading to better skin elasticity and a softening of wrinkles.
Because some patients complained about the side-effects of these deeper peels, Dr. Siegel worked with a small pharmaceutical company to develop the only acid-free, burn-free chemical peel.
2) Laser Resurfacing
Also known as a “laser peel,” laser resurfacing is another great way to achieve a more youthful appearance. New lasers are extremely precise and effective, allowing an experienced plastic surgeon to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and make scars practically invisible, among other welcome improvements. Modern lasers also have a much shorter recovery time than their older counterparts.
3) Vampire Facial
Vampire facials have become increasingly popular in recent years as more and more people search for nonsurgical but effective methods of facial rejuvenation. The vampire facial combines platelet-rich plasma treatment (PRP) with dermal micro-needling, for outstanding overall results. PRP uses blood from your own body (hence the name) to dramatically counteract skin deterioration related to ageing or sun exposure. Full results usually appear within four weeks.
4) IPL Photofacial
IPL, also known as a “Photofacial,” gets less attention than some of the other options listed here, but it’s still an excellent way to rejuvenate your skin. It’s quick, easy, requires no downtime, and doesn’t have any of the side-effects associated with chemical or laser peels. A flash of light is used to target your epidermis, or superficial skin layer, thereby improving your complexion. Photofacials usually involve four to six treatments, each separated by about a month.
5) Hyaluronic fillers
Injectable cosmetic fillers such as Restylane and Juvéderm use hyaluronic acid (which occurs naturally inside your body) to soften wrinkles, improve skin volume, and reduce acne scars. The end result is a more youthful-looking and fresh-faced appearance. Results are best when the injections are administered by an experienced facial plastic surgeon. They usually last for about six months before the hyaluronic acid begins to break down, at which point the treatment can be repeated if you wish.
Botox has been on the scene for decades – for good reason – and it has almost become a byword for cosmetic enhancement. It’s a purified protein that, in the hands of a qualified professional, can be very safely administered via injection. It causes a relaxation of your facial muscles, which reduces wrinkles and results in a more relaxed look. Modern techniques are more subtle than they used to be, and it’s now possible to see great results without the unnatural appearance once associated with Botox.
