Chin Implant Surgery (Genioplasty)
Can Your Chin Make You Appear More Successful?
The key to an attractive and balanced face is properly proportioned features. Chin implant surgery can subtly improve your overall facial appearance and often eliminate the need for other procedures.
Since 2012, chin implants, or chin augmentation have become one of the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures across all age groups. This is not surprising, as the rise in video chats, such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and video conferencing for personal and business meetings has given people a new perspective and a renewed focus on their faces.
Facial Analysis of successful people, such as CEOs of multi-billion dollar companies, news anchors, and top models, reveals that a common trend is a strong chin and a defined jaw line. Subconsciously we tend to associate these traits as successful, and more attractive.
It’s important to understand that the goal of a chin implant is not to make the chin appear bigger; rather Dr. Siegel seeks to improve facial symmetry, resulting in a more natural facial appearance.
Combined Procedures are Common
Chin Augmentation (Implant) is performed as a standalone procedure on patients that have a weak or small chin, but more commonly it is combined with a rhinoplasty, neck liposuction or a facelift. If the lower one third of your face is unbalanced, augmenting your chin and combining these other procedures will give you a better result. A rhinoplasty or a facelift may have limitations to what it can achieve. A large nose may not be able to be reduced enough to balance a small chin. A saggy neck and/or jowls may not be able to be improved to the degree desired with just a tuck or a lift if the patient had a weak chin to begin with. The addition of a chin implant in cases like these may result in a more significant result, while still preserving a person’s natural appearance.
What to Expect with a Chin Implant
Chin implants come in different shapes, sizes and materials. Dr Siegel prefers the use of silicone implants. They are safe and easy to position. They also have an excellent track record for safety and a very low risk of complications. As opposed to silicone breast implants, chin implants do not need to be replaced and stay in place for life. The outpatient procedure can be performed under twilight (patient is made sleepy and calm, but is awake) or under general anesthesia. The implant may be placed either through a mouth approach, or an under the chin approach. The procedure takes Dr Siegel about 20 min. to perform and recovery is short, as there is minimal bruising and swelling. Most patients resume normal activities within one week.
Cost of a Chin Implant or Genioplasty
The average price for a chin implant in Houston is about $3500.00. This price may not reflect separate expenses such an anesthesia and hospital facilities. The price for a chin implant procedure, like with other procedures, will vary with the degree of experience and expertise of the plastic surgeon performing the surgery. As an exclusively facial surgeon, Dr. Siegel performs a higher than average number of chin implants compared to other surgeons, with over 40 procedures per year.
