Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery or Eyelift)
When it comes to making a big impact on your appearance with minimal recovery time, Dr. Siegel believes Blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery or an eyelift) is the procedure of choice. Getting your lower, upper or both eyelids refreshed can make a great difference about how you look and feel. In an hour to an hour and a half, a tired and concerned look can be removed from your appearance.
Blepharoplasty can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more fatigued than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.
The best candidates for blepharoplasty are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have blepharoplasty at a younger age.
Because the goal for eye lift plastic surgery is to reverse time, rather than changing the appearance of your eyes, I will ask you to bring a personal picture from about 10 years ago, which I will carefully examine. Also, in the privacy of my office, you will be able to look at more blepharoplasty before and after photos than posted on this site.. My surgical approach is designed to reveal results that will have other people thinking that you just came back from a relaxing vacation, rather than you just had surgery.
Although blepharoplasty can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with me.
Blepharoplasty is the most common facial cosmetic procedures performed by Facial Plastic Surgeons today. The procedure involves removing fat--usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, and usually takes about one to two hours. Most people return to their usual routine after five days, and if bruising is present, you can cover it with make up. After two weeks your acquaintances will likely ask you if you have been on vacation, or have gotten more rest.
Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or brow lift.
