Microdermabrasion is a great technique for people who want improvement of their skin texture and who have very minimal signs of aging - without the recovery and “down time” associated with more aggressive procedures such as chemical peels, laser resurfacing and dermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion is a better preventive treatment, rather than a corrective one. Microdermabrasion will not remove scars, wrinkles, pigmentation, or reverse sun damage. Any of these skin problems may be better corrected with BOTOX® Cosmetic, injectable fillers, or a photofacial. The best treatment can only be determined at the time of consultation.
Microdermabrasion consists of a superficial exfoliation of the most superficial layers of the skin, the epidermis. This is accomplished by using micro-crystals that "abrade" the skin and a vacuum effect that immediately removes the superficial dead cells. This effect, combined with repeated treatments, gives the skin a healthy glow, and improves the appearance of very fine wrinkles and scars.
Microdermabrasion does not require anesthesia, can be performed during the lunch hour or an hour break, and there is no recovery time so the patient is able to return to work and daily activities after the treatment. Because this technique is minimally invasive, repeat treatments at least every two weeks are necessary for best results.
