Restylane LogoRestylane® is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is already present in your body and is important for imparting firmness to skin. As a facial filler, hyaluronic acid works to improve appearance by attracting and binding water molecules and thereby increasing volume. This additional volume smooths out folds, wrinkles and lines for a more youthful look. Dr. Siegel has used Restylane® with many patients over the years and it is his practice to custom tailor a treatment package for each patient’s unique needs.

Restylane® Uses and Benefits

Lip Augmentation and Enhancement- Many of us would like to have a fuller and more sensuous mouth. The use of Restylane® produces a more pronounced mouth or a soft, pouting look without surgical intervention. Restylane® is injected into the inside of the upper and/or lower lip to produce the augmentation. This is often combined with injection of Restylane® along the edge of the lips, producing a more youthful and appealing look.
The use of very small volumes of Restylane® creates a more defined and pronounced mouth and fuller lips without altering or distending the lips and mouth. Dr. Siegel also is very careful to make sure both sides of your mouth are symmetrical after the procedure, and to massage in the Restylane® so it is evenly distributed and the appearance is not bumpy or unnatural looking.

Tear-Trough Fill – Tear troughs are deep grooves that can appear between the lower eyelid and the cheek. Treatment with Restylane® can be successful with even the most pronounced tear troughs.

Anti Aging – Surgery can help tighten the skin and Botox® Cosmetic can relax facial muscles to release dynamic wrinkles, but only Restylane® can restore volume due to aging. Increased volume can create facial fullness and symmetry, enhance certain facial features, and lessen the signs of aging.

Smile and Forehead Lines and Wrinkles – Restylane® can be used to decrease both the horizontal lines across your forehead and the vertical lines between your eyebrows that are a normal part of the process of aging and loss of skin volume. Restylane® can produce a facelift-like effect, making smile lines and forehead lines less visible and pushing back the hands of time.

Acne Scar Treatment and Removal – Restylane® is best suited for filling and hence removing either shallow or deep pockmarks left over from adolescent acne. It s injected into the area of the scar, filling and smoothing the surface of the depression. After Restylane® treatment your skin will be smooth and the scars will be barely visible. The results are immediately apparent.

Restylane® is Fully Biocompatible and Non-allergenic

Unlike similar products, the hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is not produced from animals materials, but by means of a unique process called NASHA™ (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid). As a result there is no risk of animal or human disease transmission or allergic reactions for those who might be sensitive to such foods, as beef, chicken and eggs. What this also means is that Restylane® is fully bio-compatible, and treatments can be carried out immediately, without the need to wait for allergy testing.

The Restylane® Treatment Procedure

Taking only 10 to 15 minutes, a Restylane® treatment session is quick and easy. Dr. Siegel will inject Restylane® directly into your skin in tiny amounts, using an ultrafine needle for minimal discomfort. For your additional comfort, Dr. Siegel may anesthetize the treatment area. Results are almost instantaneous.
Potential Side Effects from Restylane®
With some people, there has been minor injection-related reactions that include swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at injection sites. These typically go away within a few days after the Restylane® injections or within a week for lip injections.

Are You a Good Candidate for Restylane® Treatment?

You should be a good candidate for Restylane® treatments, unless you:

1. Have a history of severe allergies manifested by a history of anaphylaxis, or a history or presence of multiple severe allergies.
2. Are allergic to the bacterial proteins (gram-positive) that Restylane® contains.
3. Are pregnant.
4. Are breastfeeding.
5. Are younger than 18 years old.
*Researchers have yet to establish Restylane’s safety for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or under 18.

It is common today many of spas and clinics to offer Restylane® injections and other medical treatments. Keep in mind that Restylane®, although a non-surgical treatment, is still a medical procedure and should be performed by a physician, especially by a plastic surgeon trained and experienced in the surgery and aesthetics of the face.
On-Going Restylane® Treatments

Restylane® treatment is long-lasting but not permanent. The length of time a treatment maintains its effect is very individual and depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, life-style and muscle activity, as well as the injection technique. Experience shows that Restylane® can be effective for up to one year or more after the treatment of lines and folds.

Together with Dr. Siegel, you can draw up a plan for regular future visits to maintain the results of your Restylane® treatments. Most patients chose to have a follow-up treatment approximately six to twelve months after the initial treatment of wrinkles, lines and folds.
