Two factors can affect the length of the nose, its starting point, or nasion and
the position of the tip. Depending on the position of the nasion, the nose may
appear longer, or shorter. Let’s look at two examples. |

The woman on the left appears to have a shorter nose than the woman on the right. Let’s
analyze their noses to see why.

The green line follows the forehead and the purple line follows the length of the nose.
The red arrow shows the point between the end of the forehead and the beginning of the
nose-also called the nasion.
The woman’s nose on the right starts much closer to
the forehead, and thus the nose is longer. The woman’s forehead on the left has
a longer forehead and the nose starts lower on her face. This causes the nose to be shorter.
By working on the area between the nose and the forehead the nose can be, depending
on the patient, made longer or shorter to achieve the right balance.
