Projection is the term used to describe how far out the nose “sticks out” from
the face. To understand this concept, we will divide the face in two areas. The
black and white portion of the photo will show the face and the colored portion
will show that part of the nose “sticking out” from the face. Let
us look at two examples to understand this. |

The length of the red line on the picture shows the amount of projection for each woman.
The woman on the left has a small amount of nose sticking out from her face, thus she
is “shortly projected”, or more commonly said, she has a short nose. The
woman on the right has a bigger portion of her nose sticking out from her face, and
thus she has more projection, or a bigger nose. I want to clarify that the appearance
of projection will also depend among other things, on the degree of tip
rotation. During
surgery the projection of the nose, in conjunction with its rotation can be changed
to make it smaller,or less commonly bigger.
