Temporal Facelift

Brows frame your features and can completely change your appearance, depending on the thickness, shape, and height of the brows. That also means they may reveal your age: Over time, the brow area may start to sag, resulting in a constantly “tired” or scowling expression. Dr. Michel Siegel in Houston offers temporal facelift surgery, also known as a brow lift, forehead lift, or temporal lift.  By lifting sagging skin, reducing wrinkles, and minimizing other signs of aging around the eyes, temples and forehead, the temporal facelift can help you restore and maintain a youthful and natural-looking face.

What Does a Temporal Lift Do?

The temporal facelift procedure involves making small incisions in the hairline above the temples and then lifting and repositioning the skin and underlying muscles. The result is a smoother, more youthful-looking forehead and better-defined brow line. The procedure can also help improve the appearance of crow’s feet and other fine lines around the eyes. Temporal facelifts are typically performed under anesthesia and take about one to two hours to complete. The results of a temporal facelift can last for several years, although they may need to be repeated periodically to maintain the desired effect

There are several specific types of temporal facelift / brow lift surgeries. You can discuss your options with Dr. Siegel and determine what’s best suited to your face and the look you want

Coronal Lift

The coronal brow lift is the classic version, which involves making an incision along the hairline from ear to ear. These procedures may be appropriate for those with lower foreheads with the added benefit of lifting the hairline. Though it is the oldest brow lift procedure, it has been mostly replaced by the less-invasive endoscopic lift.

Endoscopic Lift

During this procedure, a small endoscope is used so that the surgeon may closely monitor the tissue to remove and the location of nerves. An endoscopic lift involves making several smaller incisions, and it typically results in a shorter recovery time. This type of lift has become the go-to choice of most facial plastic surgeons with a more-advanced repertoire, including Dr. Siegel.

Is a Temporal Facelift Right for You?

You’ll need to discuss your unique needs with an experienced facial plastic surgeon, like Dr. Siegel.

Dr. Siegel will take the time to understand your needs and create a plan of action to help you achieve the look you desire. Even so, in general, you may be a good candidate for a temporal facelift if you notice any of the following:

  • Low, sagging brows that make you appear angry or tired
  • Pronounced creases or folds horizontally in your forehead
  • Frown line between your eyes and above your nose
  • Extra skin or drooping tissue above your eyes

What Should You Expect During Temporal Facelift Surgery?

The surgery by Dr. Siegel will be performed under local anesthesia and light sedation. Incisions will be made along the hair line or scalp. The skin and tissues under the brows and forehead will be lifted and repositioned and the muscle tissue causing lines and any excess skin will be removed. Once this process is complete, Dr. Siegel will close the incisions with sutures.

Recovery from a Temporal Facelift / Brow Lift

Recovery from your temporal facelift surgery involves very little pain. However, you may experience the sensation of tightness and numbness in the early stages. After the surgery, your forehead will be wrapped in bandages that will be removed one to two days later. The stitches will be removed in one to two weeks.

You may experience bruising and swelling that may get worse in the first two days but will subside completely after two to three weeks. You will need to sleep face up with your head elevated for the first two days and you may need to use ice packs to help reduce the swelling.
