Who can inject Kybella?

KYBELLA® has been getting a lot of attention, and rightfully so. It’s the first safe and effective way to get rid of a double chin without surgery.

And, as with many non-invasive procedures, providers of all types may administer the treatment. But just because they offer it, does it mean you should use them?

What KYBELLA® does

KYBELLA® works in a unique way to break down fat cells in the chin area. It uses a naturally-occurring molecule that destroys the fat cells, preventing them from storing fat. After treatment is complete, you’ll see a slimmer, more sculpted chin.

Although this sounds simple enough, it takes skill and precision to administer it correctly. You need the treatment injected in the correct amounts and locations in order to achieve the most attractive results. This is not something that can be done properly by providers who aren’t skilled in facial structure.

The Science of Facial Aesthetics

Some providers of KYBELLA® focus mainly on breast and body procedures with some facial work “on the side.” Others may claim to do a variety of procedures and have no distinct area of specialty. But facial aesthetics are a complex and delicate area of plastic surgery that shouldn’t be only an occasional event.

When you want to enhance a feature on your face, no matter what you’re having done, it’s in your best interest to utilize a facial plastic surgeon. Even injectables can produce undesirable results if they’re not done correctly. It’s much easier and safer to have it done right the first time, rather than trying to correct a bad outcome later. Use a facial plastic surgeon who does this type of procedure regularly.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Not everyone is a good candidate for KYBELLA® treatment. Some people may not have skin that is elastic enough, or may have excess skin or neck banding (prominent neck muscles). In these cases, KYBELLA® alone may not solve the issue – and could make your face and neck look worse. This is why it’s important to have a discussion with a facial plastic surgeon to learn what treatments will work best for you before you move forward with any treatment.

Don’t be fooled by the “non-invasive” aspect of KYBELLA®. It’s still a treatment that requires skill and precision for success. Because it requires knowledge of facial anatomy and experience with injectables, the safest and best choice to make is clear: use a facial plastic surgeon.
