How Does Juvéderm Work?

This treatment uses hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the skin that helps hydrate and adds volume to the skin. Juvéderm instantly helps smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, including “smile lines” or “parentheses lines” around the mouth. Juvéderm lip fillers can create plumper, more defined lips.

What Is Different About Juvéderm?

Juvéderm’s unique manufacturing process produces the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available dermal fillers, for longer-lasting results. While all other approved hyaluronic acid facial fillers are made of gels with a more granular consistency, Juvéderm is smoother, flowing easily into the skin, resulting in an exceptionally natural look. In addition, Juvéderm XC is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated safety and effectiveness in people of all skin colors.

The Juvéderm Process in Houston

Consultation

If you are interested in Juvéderm fillers, your first step is a consultation with Dr. Siegel. He will go over your aesthetic concerns, answer any questions you may have about the treatment, and create a customized Juvéderm injection plan for you. Dr. Siegel will meet with you for as long as needed to help you feel comfortable and confident moving forward.

Preparation

Although it is not required, Dr. Siegel recommends that patients getting Juvéderm injections in our Houston office discontinue use of any medications that may prolong bleeding, including aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) at least one week prior to Juvéderm injections. This will reduce your risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site and lead superior results. Dr. Siegel will provide you with any necessary pre-injection guidelines personalized to your particular procedure before the treatment session.

Procedure

Dr. Siegel has vast experience with all dermal fillers and performs every treatment himself. You will not experience any pain, as a numbing cream along with the lidocaine in in Juvéderm XC makes the treatment comfortable. Dr. Siegel uses very fine needles to further maximize comfort during treatment, which typically takes approximately 30 minutes.

Recovery

Immediately after your Juvéderm treatment, we will apply an ice pack to the treatment area to help prevent swelling. Some patients experience mild to moderate side effects after Juvéderm injections, such as redness, and/or swelling, which resolves within hours after treatment. Bruising is also possible, but rare with Dr. Siegel’s expertise technique, and when it occurs, it will typically resolve within seven days or less. Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, or any pressure to the injected areas after treatment.

How Long Do ResultsLast with Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is long-lasting, but eventually will be absorbed by the body. The length of time a treatment maintains its effect is very individual and depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle, facial muscle activity, as well as the injection technique.

Experience demonstrates that Juvéderm can be effective for to six to 18 months or longer depending on which areas of the face are treated. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment at approximately six to twelve months after their first injection session to maintain a refreshed, rejuvenated look.

Juvéderm FAQ's

Juvéderm® offers a wide range of aesthetic facial fillers. Houston Juvederm patients often choose this to reduce wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, as it softens these lines and adds volume to the skin tissue. While Juvéderm XC Ultra provides versatility in contouring and filling facial wrinkles, Juvéderm XC Ultra Plus is a thicker formula, appropriate for correcting more severe folds and wrinkles.

Juvéderm XC injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and efficacy in people with darker skin tones. Unlike other cosmetic injectables, Juvéderm has been shown in studies to cause no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients with darker skin.

While BOTOX Cosmetic and Juvéderm are both injectable treatments that can diminish the appearance of wrinkles, they work in very different ways. BOTOX softens dynamic wrinkles and folds by preventing your facial muscles from contracting. In contrast, dermal fillers such as Juvéderm smooth out wrinkles by adding volume to your skin above the muscle tissue.

While there are a multitude of providers offering Juvéderm treatments in Houston, the key factor in your results is the technique and skills of your injector. It requires experience, expertise, and a keen eye for balance and beauty to deliver natural looking results that enhance your appearance, without making you look “over-injected,” or fake. Dr. Siegel has extensive experience and exceptional skill with dermal fillers and is known for achieving results that appear remarkably fresh and natural.
