In addition to performing a wide range of facial plastic surgery procedures like rhinoplasty, Dr. Michel Siegel is proud to offer Juvéderm® treatment to our patients. FDA-approved Juvéderm® XC injectable gel is a “next-generation” dermal filler. This treatment uses hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to the skin. Juvéderm® helps instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, such as your “smile lines” or “parentheses” around your mouth (the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvéderm® lip fillers can also be used to plump your mouth for a natural and youthful appearance.
Juvéderm®’s unique manufacturing process produces the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available dermal fillers for long-lasting results. While all other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are made of granular consistency gels, Juvéderm® has a smooth consistency that flows easily into the skin, providing an even, smooth look. In addition, Juvéderm® XC is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated safety and effectiveness in people of all skin colors. With two formulations of the injectable to choose from, Dr. Siegel can readily custom tailor Houston Juvéderm® injections for each patient’s unique needs.
The Juvéderm® Process
If you’re interested in Juvéderm® fillers, the first step is meeting with an expert in Houston cosmetic injectables like Dr. Siegel. During this appointment, he will go over your aesthetic concerns and answer any questions you may have about the treatment. He will then create a customized Juvéderm® injection plan for you. Dr. Siegel will meet with you for as long as needed during this appointment to help you feel comfortable and confident moving forward.
While not required, Dr. Siegel recommends that patients getting Juvéderm® injections at our Houston office discontinue use of any medications that may prolong bleeding, including aspiring and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) at least one week prior to Juvéderm® treatment. This reduces your risk for bruising and bleeding at the injection site, leading to quicker and longer lasting results. Dr. Siegel will also provide you with any necessary pre-injection guidelines personalized to your particular procedure before the actual appointment.
Dr. Siegel has vast experience with all dermal fillers and he performs every treatment himself. Infused with lidocaine to dull the potential discomfort of injection, Juvéderm® XC requires no other topical anesthetic to be administered. Dr. Siegel also uses a fine needle to further maximize your comfort during injection. The Juvéderm® treatment process usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Immediately after your Juvéderm® injection, we will apply an ice pack to the treatment area to prevent swelling. Some patients experience mild to moderate side effects after Juvéderm®, such as redness, discomfort, tenderness, swelling, lumps, bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. These are typically short lasting, diminishing in seven days or less. If you experience any more serious issues possibly related to Juvéderm® XC treatment, contact our Houston plastic surgery office immediately for assistance. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection, but Dr. Siegel takes every precaution to minimize this risk. After your Juvéderm® injection, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. Juvéderm® is long-lasting, but not permanent. The length of time a treatment maintains its effect is very individual and depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity, as well as the injection technique. Experience demonstrates that Juvéderm® can be effective for up to six months or more when used to treat lines and folds. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment about six to twelve months after their first injection.
What are the most common reasons people get Juvéderm® injections?
Juvéderm® offers a wide range of aesthetic facial enhancements. Patients often choose this dermal filler to reduce wrinkles and folds found in their smile lines and nasolabial folds, because it softens these lines and adds volume to the skin tissue. While Juvéderm® XC Ultra provides versatility in contouring and filling facial wrinkles, Juvéderm® XC Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation for correcting even deeper folds and wrinkles.
Juvéderm® XC injectable gel is also the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and efficacy in people with darker skin tones. Unlike other cosmetic injectables, studies with Juvéderm® SC showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients with dark skin. Juvéderm® lips are also becoming increasingly popular. This injectable treatment can be used to improve the shape, size, and volume of lips, offering a minimally invasive form of lip augmentation.
What is the difference between Juvéderm® and BOTOX®?
While BOTOX® Cosmetic and Juvéderm® are both injectable treatments that can diminish the appearance of wrinkles, they work in very different ways. BOTOX® softens dynamic wrinkles and folds by preventing your facial muscles from contracting. In contrast, dermal fillers like Juvéderm® smooth out wrinkles by adding volume to your skin above the muscle tissue. Since they target different areas of your facial anatomy, you can combine a dermal filler like Juvéderm® with BOTOX® Cosmetic for even better overall results. At your initial consultation, Dr. Siegel can help you decide if Juvéderm®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, or a combination of these injectables may be the right choice for you.
Does Juvéderm® require massaging or ice after treatment?
You do not have to massage or ice your treatment areas, but this may be advisable, depending on how you are healing. Icing injection sites can help prevent swelling and bruising. If you develop any bumps or uneven skin around your injection site, massaging the area for several minutes at a time may help with this. Please consult with Dr. Siegel before either icing or massaging your skin after Juvéderm® treatment. He will tell you if icing or massaging is appropriate for you depending on your particular circumstances.
Dr Siegel is a Facial Plastic Surgeon, this gives him an expert knowledge on facial structures, allowing him to minimize complications and create natural enhancements by knowing how much and where exactly to inject the right filler
Not all injectors have the same credentials, experience or artistry, and while this is not a surgical procedure, it is still a medical procedure, and the results depend on these qualities of your injector, not the filler being injected.
The majority of injectors, not only be not be highly skilled facial specialist, but may have very limited experience performing this procedures or may be doing them on a part time basis. It requires not only an eye for balance, but also years to achieve the mastery of injection skills-this will make the difference between a natural and more youthful appearance, as opposed to the overly filled and in-natural look associated with poorly executed injections.
