Since 2012, chin implants, or chin augmentation have become one of the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures across all age groups. This is not surprising, as the rise in video chats, such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and video conferencing for personal and business meetings has given people a new perspective and a renewed focus on presenting an attractive face.

What is Chin Implant Surgery?

Chin Implant Surgery is the augmentation of the chin to achieve a more structured and defined jawline. It’s important to understand that the goal of a chin implant is not to make the chin appear bigger; rather Dr. Siegel seeks to improve facial symmetry, resulting in a more balanced facial appearance.

Chin implants are made from biocompatible material such as silicon or Gortex and shaped to fit to your face and natural chin structure. Dr. Siegel will consult with you to determine the best shape and size chin implant to achieve facial symmetry and a more proportionate appearance.

Before & After

What is the Chin Implant Procedure?

Chin Implant surgery is an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia with sedation. During the procedure, Dr. Siegel will insert the selected chin implant through a small incision in the mouth or beneath the chin.

After it is affixed to the chin, Dr. Siegel will close your incision and tape your chin to hold its place as it heals. In two weeks, the chin implant will be stable in its position.

Recovery from Chin Implant Surgery

After chin Implant surgery, it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising. The swelling will peak around one to two days after surgery and you will need to sleep face up, with your head elevated for at least one to two weeks after undergoing surgery. With Dr. Siegel’s expert chin implant placement, unlike other surgeons, there is no need to wear a chin strap around your face after surgery. You will be able to return to work as quickly as 2-3 days after surgery, but avoid strenuous activity or exercise until three to four weeks after surgery, once your chin has fully healed.

The stitches in the mouth will dissolve within 10 days. If the incision was made under the chin, stitches will also dissolve or be removed in about one week. The size of the incision is about that of a fingernail and under Dr. Siegel’s intricate work, any scar will be nearly invisible once healed.

Risks and complications with our Houston chin augmentation procedures are rare but can include bleeding, change in chin sensation, shifting of the chin implant, or infection. Make sure to discuss any health issues with Dr. Siegel during a consultation. Under his care, you can reduce the risk of complications – he recognized as being among the finest facial plastic surgeons practicing in Houston.
