Radix Surgery
Premier Houston Rhinoplasty Surgeon Dr. Michel Siegel
In Latin, radix means the “root” or starting point. In the context of noses and nose surgery, the radix delineates where the nose begins, or where it protrudes from the forehead.
The radix of the nose is important in rhinoplasty, as it may make a nose appear more masculine or feminine, depending on where the nose starts.
A “normal” radix is one in which the nose begins at approximately the same level as the eye pupil. Below is an example.
With a “low” radix, the nose starts below the pupil. This tends to create the appearance of a more-feminine and shorter nose. A “Barbie nose,” for instance, tends to result from a lower radix
With a “high” radix, the nose starts above the pupil. This is associated with a masculine, or “strong” nose. A nose with a higher radix tends protrude out more.
If you think part of your new-and-improved look involves modifying your radix distance, contact Dr. Siegel in Houston.
