Can You Change Your Nose Without Surgery?

Sometimes we want to improve our appearance without committing to anything too invasive or difficult to reverse. Fortunately, in the case of rhinoplasty, there is an effective and nonsurgical method of enhancing the shape of your nose. Let’s take a look at what nonsurgical rhinoplasty involves, and how to know when it’s a good alternative to the classic nose job!

What Does Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty Involve?

When surgeons perform nonsurgical rhinoplasty, they don’t have to make any incisions. They instead inject a hyaluronic acid filler into your nasal tissue. The filler is readily malleable, and an experienced plastic surgeon will be able to achieve a variety of effects as desired. You can straighten your crooked nose, reduce bumps on your nasal bridge, make the tip of your nose more symmetrical, and more—all without having to go under the knife.

The procedure is quick and painless, and you only need to visit the clinic once. In many cases, if it’s performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon with a great understanding of nose aesthetics, the results are equal to those of surgical rhinoplasty. The main downside is that the effects are temporary, usually lasting for about one year before the filler begins to break down. When this happens, you can either stick with the original shape of your nose, “top up” with another injection, or opt for a much longer-lasting surgical rhinoplasty.

(Another advantage of temporary fillers is that they can be reversed at any time; you don’t need to wait the full year if you aren’t happy with your results!)

How Do I Know If It’s Right For Me?

Some improvements are only possible with surgical rhinoplasty. If you want to make your nose smaller, or fix your deviated septum, your surgeon will most likely need to make some incisions and perhaps remove some of the tissue. For most other changes, fillers can be a genuine alternative to surgery.

There are a couple of situations where we would recommend nonsurgical rhinoplasty over its surgical equivalent. For starters, some people aren’t entirely sure what they want their nose to look like. Although it’s possible with the help of a nose job app to visualize the end result of a surgery, it’s sometimes useful to trial something temporary and reversible first.

Other people are understandably reluctant to have invasive surgery of any kind. Although Dr. Siegel favors subtle and minimally invasive surgical techniques, it can still seem less daunting to go for the nonsurgical option. Some patients prefer to come back year after year to top up their filler rather than make any permanent changes—and this is is totally fine!
