So you’d like to make some improvements to your nose, but you’re not quite ready to commit to full-blown surgery? Fortunately, there’s another option out there. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty allows you to have a “test run” before trying something more permanent. Alternatively, it may even provide all the changes you’re hoping for on its own. In this post we’ll take a closer look at whether it might be right for you.
What Does It Involve?
Nonsurgical “nose jobs” don’t require any incisions or other surgical work; instead, your plastic surgeon simply injects a filler beneath your skin which can then be sculpted to plump up or smoothen the affected area. This straightforward but versatile technique can give you a variety of different results, in many cases as convincing as actual surgery.
Although the procedure is simple, painless, and easy for the patient- requiring just one short clinic visit and no downtime whatsoever- it’s still important to find a facial plastic surgeon with a detailed knowledge of rhinoplasty. So much of your end result depends on how the surgeon “sees” your nose in relation to your face. A sketch may be simpler than a painting, but you can still tell a good artist from a bad one!
When Is Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty A Good Option?
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty can mimic many of the results seen with surgery. If you want to define your nasal bridge, make humps and bumps less obvious, straighten a crooked nose, or improve a few other things, then you probably have the luxury of choosing between surgical and nonsurgical options. On the other hand, you can’t use fillers to make your nose smaller or fix functional problems such as a deviated septum; you’ll need surgery for that.
Essentially, if you want to see some fantastic, affordable results that can be easily reversed if you change your mind, nonsurgical rhinoplasty could be perfect for you. The only major downside, of course, is that these results will be temporary.
How Temporary Are We Talking?
Many of Dr. Siegel’s patients report that their results last for a year or more. It’s difficult to know exactly how long your individual results will last, but you can get a general idea based on filler and skin type. Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as the ones used by Dr. Siegel, typically last from six to twelve months. People with thicker skin types, such as Asians or Africans, can sometimes see longer lasting results.
When the effects begin to wear off, the process can simply be repeated. If you’re very happy with your new look, you might even decide that it’s time for more permanent surgical rhinoplasty. (Although the one-off cost for surgery is higher, it can prove cheaper in the long run.)
