Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation

Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation

“Chin up…”, “I took it on the chin…” You have probably heard sayings that mention the chin, but what if the size, shape, or projection of your chin makes you feel unhappy? Chin augmentation can be life-changing! You have two options: A non-surgical chin augmentation, or surgical chin augmentation. Dr. Michel Siegel, MD, and his dedicated team of professionals at the Facial Center for Plastic Surgery in Houston can assist you in choosing the best procedure – for you.

What is surgical chin augmentation?

After a thorough consultation and evaluation of your facial structure, Dr. Siegel will place a chin implant made of a bio-compatible material like silicon or Gortex to enhance your chin size, shape, or level of projection. Surgical chin augmentation is an outpatient procedure. You will be comfortable and pain-free, with the help of intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. After the surgery, you can enjoy a more sculpted, defined chin. It takes approximately two weeks for your new implant to stabilize. You must avoid strenuous exercise for up to four weeks after your surgery.

What is non-surgical chin augmentation?

You can enhance the chin with non-surgical chin augmentation, performed with dermal fillers. When chin augmentation is performed with dermal fillers, maintaining the look will require retreatment. We offer chin augmentation with dermal fillers, such as with Radiesse®, in a short appointment at our beautiful Houston Facial Center for Plastic Surgery office. As with surgical augmentations, the procedure begins after a consultation with you. Dr. Siegel may apply a topical numbing cream before injecting the filler. Some patients have reported minor side effects, including redness, discomfort, tenderness, itching, or bruising, but these symptoms usually disappear within a few days.

How do I choose?

Dr. Siegel and his staff will happily support you with whichever option will help you feel more confident in your look. The following are some additional suggestions to help you choose between surgical and non-surgical chin augmentation:

You should pursue surgical chin augmentation if:

  • You want longer-lasting results.
  • You have the patience to see your final results.
  • You understand you will have an outpatient procedure with anesthesia.
  • You know that as a board-certified specialist in facial and plastic surgery, Dr. Siegel is an expert in this field. We provide a superior level of personal care and results.

You should pursue non-surgical chin augmentation if:

  • You want immediate results.
  • You want a subtle, adjustable look.
  • You want to try a minimally invasive procedure first.

Facial balance and chin augmentation

If your chin structure is too small, receding, or asymmetrical, it has a big impact on your entire facial look. With chin augmentation, whether surgical or non-surgical, you can look far more attractive and appealing – and you can feel much more confident. Augmenting the chin structure has the added benefit of making your nose look smaller. Are you considering chin augmentation? We are here to discuss your options. Dr. Michel Siegel is a board-certified specialist in facial and plastic surgery, and is known for his artistry, skill, and ability to alter the chin structure to achieve more beautiful facial balance.
